Attorney Mooradian won Special Findings of Fact and Rulings of Law today for an immigrant child he represented in the Worcester Probate and Family Court. Attorney Mooradian’s client, a young woman from Guatemala, is an indigenous person who was subjected to extreme poverty in her country of origin. To make matters worse, she was abandoned by her father as a young child. After only seeing her father on a handful of occasions, and after being forced to live with other relatives with hardly enough food to eat, she was eventually able to travel to the United States.
After making an arduous journey to the United States, she finally was able to reunite with an older relative. Now, she receives excellent care and social support from her relative. Indeed, she is able to attend school full time, receive adequate food and shelter, and receive adequate medical care. By contrast, she would have nowhere to live, and no one to help in caring for her, in her country of origin. Indeed, she would be unable to survive in a country where she faced significant loss and trauma as a child.
Now, the attorney can move forward in an effort to terminate her removal proceedings and in obtaining immigration benefits, namely permanent residence through special immigrant juvenile status.
